The endless fascination and replication of the willow pattern is a beautiful statement about how we can reframe and reinterpret, creating new art at the edges of old. How one pattern can look so different - the intensity of the davenport willow for example, compared to the gaiety of this sky blue version by Gustavsberg.

Although Gustavsberg calls this Willow, this is actually the Mandarin pattern, from which Willow evolved, surrounded by the 'trellis dagger' or the Fitzroy border (but there's a whole 'nother story around that...). 

The teacup is on the model A which was popularized several decades later by Stig Lindberg and the Gustavsberg Gang :)
