Every Japanese eggshell cup I've come across so far, has a motif which has a hidden meaning. This one is no different. In Japan the myth surrounding the crane is one of eternal youth and prosperity since the crane, it is said, lives for a 1000 years.

Naturally I can't promise you drinking tea out of this cup will make you live longer, but I'm fairly certain it will make you look better when holding it.
