Gustavsberg | Yokohama | A | c.1887 – 1901 | Antique | Old Gustafsberg

A simply beautiful cup, very much in the style of Wexio (so perhaps by Arvid Ekberg as well?) in green and gold. We know very little of Arvid Ekberg, Josef Ekberg's half brother apart from that he designed and created Wexiö Guld, Peking and Stambul. However, even these three designs mean that he took a worthy place alongside his father and his brother, as one of the most important designers of Gustavsberg.

Also noteworthy is the name of this cup. The first treaty between Japan and Sweden was signed in 1868 in Yokohama through Dutch legislation, and was what facilitated the trade of porcelain (as well as tea, spices and all things exotic) via the Dutch East India Company, to Sweden.
