Lomonosov USSR | Pink & White Chocolate Cup with lid c. 1975, Made in USSR

Lomonosov cups, I’ve found, are designed to make a statement on your tea table and this one is no different. The lid originally designed to keep an expensive beverage warm while it was delicately sipped over the course of a couple of hours serves little practical purpose nowadays, but like a top hat, adds a dose of grandeur to any occasion.

Remnants of old school Chinese porcelain decoration still feature centuries later on a cup produced in 1970’s USSR; crisscrossed segments, recall bamboo decor on quartered imariware, whilst the roses conform to romantic Victorian ideals. The cup is in great condition with no chips, cracks or discolouration. Simply superb.
