Pontus is one of the very few decors on Hertha's DM model by Olle Alberius who worked at Rörstrand during the 60s but was master of another model the AK (which featured the famous decors Fleur, Mobile, Koffi and Grace among others). Pontus is a very popular design on this cup and fits right between Victoria (by Christina Campbell) and Gille (Unknown); both are similar in shade and style.
But I think this decor Pontus must be named after the greek god Pontus - the primordial Greek god of the sea (unless of course it's Pontus the Greek God of Blue onions).
Incidentally my research indicates that Pontus was also known as The Old Man of the Sea (which makes me wonder if the title of Ernest Hemingway's tedious tome was actually quite a clever pun...
