This side plate is glazed in green luster with hand-painted decoration in gold. What's more they're a big part of Swedish ceramics history, as one of the few lusterwares to be produced in Sweden.

Green flint lusterware is a rarity in this world (mostly you'll find luster/metal oxide glaze on porcelain and not in green!), but one can surmise that the reason it was produced here and now, was to build on Gustavsberg's stunning popularity of Wilhelm Kåge's Argenta ware (which goes for ever increasing prices on today's market).

These plates are in mint condition, are stamped Gustavsberg - in gold - and also signed by Josef Ekberg, again in gold.

A Little Background:

Before Stig Lindberg, there was Josef Ekberg (1877-1945). Josef is one of the well-known representatives of the illustrious Swedish ceramic design of the 20th century and the artistic leader for Gustavsberg in 1908-1917, instrumental in developing sgrafitto and luster glazes for Gustavsberg.
