Rörstrand | Cuba (gul) | Model VB | Coffee Cup

Cuba's an interesting one for two reasons. It's extremely similar to Rörstrand's Bimbo as a pattern, and actually has another version in the same colours as Bimbo - red and blue.

The second reason is personal.... I had to argue its case with many emails to allow it to feature in my product line because the hosting company forbade anything supporting an enemy of the USA. I assured them that this cup is not communist propaganda. It's Swedish for one thing, and was produced in 1962-66 (the hosting company's computers were not convinced). This is the coffee cup version of the VB model. 

The cup, which has a plain band of yellow is the same as the cup for fiesta (in yellow) as well as Salix. For all you collectors out there, note the difference between this shade of yellow and the shade used in Fresia which was produced a decade earlier. As the world emerged from the stupor of war towards the end of the 50s, yellow started to be used as a primary colour as opposed to a pastel. Think itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini!
