Schumann | Empress Dresden Flowers | Mocha | Vintage Cup & Saucer

This mocha cup was manufactured by Schumann in Bavaria in the Belle epoque style, although the backstamp means it was manufactured in 1940-50. The design is "Empress Dresden Flowers" and is one of the famous signature designs of Schuman Arzberg. The company Schumann (located in Arzberg!) was founded in 1881 and continued producing for over 100 years, but closed its doors finally in 1994.

*The name Dresden has deep roots in porcelain history, it’s the town/factory where Meissen seconds (the porcelain blanks not deemed good enough to be used by Meissen) were used to produce cheaper versions. Eventually Dresden produced porcelain to rival Meissen but was more famous for their lavish artwork often described as Rococco revival style.
