This superb antique doesnt look a day older than it did when it was first manufactured. Beautiful floral decor and raised relief dots around the rims of the plate, the saucer and the pedestal foot of the cup. The gold detail is also beautifully preserved.

About Rosenthal: The story of Rosenthal is a fascinating one which reads like a movie. In the beginning Philip Rosenthal wasn't a porcelain manufacturer, he was a reseller. He bought undecorated porcelain from Hutschenreuther and his wife Maria painted it, so he could sell it door to door. Later they established a factory in Asch to produce their own whiteware. But Philip Rosenthal was Jewish, and fast fowarding a couple of decades to WW2 he lost control of his company to the Nazis, was forced to flee and died in exile. His son Philip Junior, had an enormous struggle to regain control after the war, and only eventually did so in 1950. He avenged his father by making the company into a huge success with many now famous designs - those of of Bjorn Wiinblad from Denmark (see my listing for White Romance), Hans Theo Baumann from Germany, Raymond Peynet from France and Tapio Wirkkala from Finland.
