Gefle U.E. | Pikant | Ternell | EB Coffee Cup

The name of this coffee cup is Pikant which means spicy; I'm still unclear however as to whether spicy refers to the colour combo, the hand painted (or rather stamped) inverted forbidding triangles or even to how one feels pre-coffee in the morning. Yellow was a hugely popular 60s choice of colour; I've listed Kryss already this week (decor yellow and black), and I'm soon to list Spinett (yellow and black) and next week comes Bonny (yellow and black). Yet traditionally yellow and black are natures warning flags. So what gives?

Well, yellows were huge in the 60s after the drabness of war & depression - the sun came out again. Yellow had been used as a pastel for many years, but reasserted itself as a primary colour in submarines, in itsy bitsy polka dot bikinis, and smiley faces. Some wiser sources than I on the internet say that it was because the 60s was a time of awakening. Which makes it a perfect colour for a coffee cup.
