Gefle U.E. | Groblad (blå) | Löfgren-Örtendahl | EF Coffee cup

Rare and striking cup by Barbro Löfgren-Örtendahl called "Groblad". This one is in blue, it has a twin - in brown of course! Barbro was born in 1918, and developed several famous designs for Gefle between 1962-9.

Groblad means Plantain. Not plantains (the banana) but plantain, the plant which is used for herbal salves and balms. Even if it's not as exotic as it might first appear, the plantain is a leftfield choice for a Swedish ceramicist who tend towards blueberries and tulips. Luckily, she also designed ceramics with those :)
