Gefle U.E. | Julia | Lynd | EH Teacup

This cup is called "Julia" and is my first hand painted example on the EH model, by Jackie Lynd. I think its a very beautiful if understated cup. If you imagined the design in hues of purple, it would resemble Marianne Westman's work or even Stig's prunus. By painting her plums brown, Jackie makes it her own. 

The EH coffee cup is 7 cm diameter and 5,5cm height. The saucer is 13 cm diameter.

The EH tea cup is 9.5 cm diameter and 6cm height. The saucer is 15.5 cm diameter.

One of the things I notice about Swedish ceramicists is that they are individually famous for designing pieces which are commercially available. (You don't tend to find this in U.K. where I'm from, the individual is less lauded than the pottery factory excepting perhaps, for the founders). There are also a really large proportion of women in the bunch! Jackie is not a native Swede, but her talent made her famous here in both Gefle & Rörstrand.

Gefle was established in 1910, and bought by Upsala Ekeby in 1939. Gefle kept its artistic integrity however, and continued to run designs more or less independently of its parent company just as Karlskrona did later in 1947. Like the other porcelain factories in Sweden, Gefle employed a string of very talented ceramics artists among them Arthur Percy, Berit Ternell, Eugene Trost & Jackie Lynd (the woman after my own heart, who came from Ireland and made her name in Sweden).
