Gustavsberg's porcelain was famous long before the fruity illustrations of Stig Lindberg became popular. And yet when he joined, his success was so fast and so phenomenal, that the good folk at the top, decided that Gustavsberg's most successful, but more traditional designs should feature on Stigs trendy new cup model “SA”. Fasan means pheasant, but the pattern is known in english as Asiatic Pheasants, and has been produced by hundreds of potters for over 200 years. I'm so used to seeing it in blue & white, I didn’t recognise it at first, but it ranks with the willow in terms of longevity.

Like Willow, Asiatic Pheasants was first produced in Staffordshire UK and has nothing to do with Asia (apart from the english desire to emulate Chinese porcelain patterns!) It was produced (by Gustavsberg) in red, green, blue and brown. Other potters used other colours...
