If you’ve cast a glance at my other Paul Hoff listings you’ll know the questions I pose about his unwavering commitment to this design… in brown… in green… and here in a surprising departure, in red and blue. This cup is fairly rare & goes by the name of Japan.I haven’t heard of a particular intent regarding the radical change in colour (the SA-1 model colour scheme tended towards greens or browns) but it is probably not a coincidence that Margareta Hennix also produced her only blue and red cup decor “Aurora” in the same period. Was it the start of a new line? Was it to celebrate an event? Or was it simply that the glaze manufacturer delivered the wrong batch…(Paul’s design in the same colours can also be found on a very expensive vase, a twin I suppose to this cup, named Nippon.)
