I've seen so many pictures of Ranka over the years that it’s become rather commonplace, but there’s a vast difference between seeing pictures and studying real life, up close brushstrokes in rich rust red and deep blue, immortalized under still glossy glaze. It’s a beautifully historical moment captured and fired in the kiln.

Ranka is enduringly popular in Sweden and for good reason.

Ranka itself was an update by Stig Lindberg of an older pattern Allmoge (see pictures). Allmoge means peasant or rather man of the country - and refers to commoners or "folk" as opposed to upper class. Thus the pattern resembles the traditional form and color of Scandinavian folk art. Allmogestil also denotes a concept; old school, rural, handmade - a style which is genuine and meaningful, a return to basics.

The pattern Allmoge was painted for the first time around the turn of the century in 1900; Ranka was produced twice, 1942-65 and then in the 70s.
