Gustavsberg | Salix (röd) | SE | Lindberg

Gorgeous, authentic, original production Salix coffee cup in red by Stig Lindberg (manufactured sometime between 1954-70).The curse of popular cups, especially where Gustavsberg is concerned, is that you often can't tell what is vintage production and what is new production since the beginning of the noughties. Salix has been re-manufactured since 2008. So how can you tell this is an original production?

a) the shape of the cup; this shape hasn't been produced for the new version.

b) the transfer overlap; if you have a look at the third picture, the transfer overlap between two leaves is present. The new production "corrects" this quirk.

c) the identification of the old style Gustavsberg stamp

Stig Lindberg like so many other Swedish designers, was inordinately fond of leaves. His most famous cup "Bersa" (aka. Arbor) was leaves; another one "Festong" (aka. Garland) also leaves; this one Salix is Swedish for Willow (pussy willow rather than any other kind of willow!). Salix also comes in black.
